Broadford « Churchfield Construction and Green Energy

Broadford

Churchfield were approached by the young couple who owned this house with a desire for an open plan kitchen/dining/playroom but also that the old and new would be equal in terms of their energy demand and living environment.

After a consultation period with the clients Churchfield prepared and lodged a planning application with the relevant Authority. Once passed, the job commenced in earnest.

The extension walls are built using Quinn-lite blocks and then wrapped externally in EPS insulation. the main house is also wrapped in external insulation thus unifying both the original house and extension. The flat roof of extension exceeds current Building Regulations U-value and also features a large high performing rooflight that floods the new extension in light. A condensing boiler and zoned heating system were also installed along with attic insulation. The Ber certificate on completion achieved a B2 but since completion the clients have requested Churchfield to install a solar hot water system and this would bring the Ber to a B1 at least.

The build ran entirely to plan and was on-schedule and also on budget. This can be attributed to the design and build nature of the job where Churchfield were the one point of referance throughout the entire process. The homeowners and their young family are extremely happy and confident that they have prepared themselves in energy efficiency against the current backdrop of rising oil prices and increased fuel demands.
