Broadford extension and renovation with the future in mind

Churchfield were approached by the young couple who owned this house with a desire for an open plan kitchen/dining/playroom but also that the old and new would be equal in terms of their energy demand and living environment.

After a consultation period with the clients Churchfield prepared and lodged a planning application with the relevant Authority. Once passed, the job commenced in earnest.

The extension walls are built using Quinn-lite blocks and then wrapped externally in EPS insulation. the main house is also wrapped in external insulation thus unifying both the original house and extension. The flat roof of extension exceeds current Building Regulations U-value and also features a large high performing rooflight that floods the new extension in light. A condensing boiler and zoned heating system were also installed along with attic insulation. The Ber certificate on completion achieved a B2 but since completion the clients have requested Churchfield to install a solar hot water system and this would bring the Ber to a B1 at least.

The build ran entirely to plan and was on-schedule and also on budget. This can be attributed to the design and build nature of the job where Churchfield were the one point of referance throughout the entire process. The homeowners and their young family are extremely happy and confident that they have prepared themselves in energy efficiency against the current backdrop of rising oil prices and increased fuel demands.

A highly efficient bungalow in Killiney

The owner of this bungalow in Killiney was already on the right path when he approached Churchfield to enhance his house further along the energy efficiency road. He had previosly installed a high efficiency boiler and heating controls and was now looking to upgrade the building fabric of his home.

Churchfield externally insulated the house with EPS insulation with an acrylic finish and also provided attic insulation. The U-value of the walls rose from 2.4 W/m2K to 0.27 W/m2K and the attic from 0.4 W/m2K to 0.13 W/m2K.

The Ber for the house is now a C2 which translates to a vastly decreased heating demand and a much more consistent and comfortable living environment.

Two works better than one!

Two works better than one!

On this project in Ballinteer both homeowners in adjoining semi-detached houses decided to take a unified stance in reducing their energy needs and making their homes a far more comfortable within.

Both homeowners opted for a higher performing external insulation board thereby achieving a U-value of 0.22 W/m2K. A new condensing boiler, zoned heating system and attic insulation were also provided by Churchfield in one the houses.

The benefits are not only being felt by the homeowners but are also there to be seen as aesthetically the houses are united with an insulated makeover.

On this project Churchfield were approached by architects Design Strategies to wrap this 1950s house and newly built extension in external insulation. It is a fine example of how traditional features such as brick and timber cladding can be replicated with external insulation and the material runs seamlessly from original house onto the modern extension at the rear of the property. Walls achieved a U-Value of 0.27 W/m2K.

Light filled, spacious sunroom with floor to ceiling glazing in Bray

Our client’s brief for this project was to establish a stronger link to the West facing garden by means of a sunroom. The only existing direct access to the well maintained garden was through the sitting room while the kitchen exited to the side of the house.

The answer was to build a light filled and spacious sunroom with floor to ceiling glazing which could be accessed via the kitchen and the sitting room. The kitchen was re-modelled to provide a link with the garden through the sunroom and also to harmonise the interior finishes.

Outside the garden area was extensively hard landscaped and all existing planting was relocated.

Stillorgan Living Area and Attic Conversion

The clients for this project sought to establish a large bright spacious living area to replace the small un-used dark rooms that originally formed the main core of the house. To achieve this proposal the kitchen, study and bathroom were re configured to create a large open plan kitchen and dining area that would lead into a luxurious living room. Both the kitchen and dining area are illuminated with the use of skylights that permit natural light into the space throughout the day. To maximise the potential of the house, the attic was converted into a master suite with a large bedroom, study and bathroom.

This house extension creates a direct connection between the living spaces and the landscaped garden. The design of the extension establishes a light soaked, comfortable living space that lets natural light illuminate the inner areas of the house. The extension is constructed to a very high specification with a cathedral ceiling maximising the sense of space for occupants. The high quality of finish and detail was carried through from the high grade inner rooms to the landscaped areas of the garden.

Churchfield were contracted to construct an architecturally designed extension. Having successfully completed a number of jobs in the neighbourhood, we were invited to tender by the home owner. The extension was constructed to a high specification with high quality insulation levels installed alongside the aluminium clad timber windows. The kitchen is illuminated by skylights in the cathedral ceiling. To complete the works landscaping was installed to sensitively negotiate a change in level.

This bright landscaped driveway provides the idyllic setting for the red brick period house to which it belongs. The sensitive material selection for the stone work sits easily alongside the defining magenta colour of the flowers to create a wonderful entrance to the house. Taking cognisance of the original metal balustrade, shrubs have been planted to either side of the steps to frame the entrance to the house.

Glasnevin ground floor extension and roof construction in Edwardian home

This ground floor extension floor extension and roof construction in an existing Edwardian house is a fine example of the symbiosis that can be achieved between old period features and modern minimal design. Red brick, sash windows and blue Bangor slate now stand happily side by side with zinc, aluminium and monocouche renders.

The series of interconnected volumes of new and existing are harmonised by the overall focus on volume, material and light.

The ground floor extension which leads onto a South facing garden consists of a spacious open plan kitchen/ dining/ living areas with separated utility and wc. Large aluminium clad windows and doors on two sides maximise light for the interior.

The attic conversion comprises of a bedroom and en-suite that are acessed via a new seamless staircase from the exisitng first floor. Both stairs and bedroom are flooded in daylight from projecting dormers.
